(הולנדית: grote synagoge או grote sjoel) שימש כבית כנסת מרכזי לקהילה האשכנזית באמסטרדם מעת הקמתו בשנת 1671 ועד מלחמת העולם השנייה. במהלך מאה השנים הראשונות לאחר הקמתו, נבנו בצמוד למבנה שלושה בתי כנסת נוספים. כיום משמש קומפלקס בתי הכנסת את המוזיאון להיסטוריה יהודית באמסטרדם. \n הקהילה האשכנזית באמסטרדם נוסדה בשנת 1635 עם הגירתם של יהודים ממרכז ומזרח אירופה (להבדיל מהקהילות הספרדיות שהיו כבר קיימות מתחילת המאה באמסטרדם). הקהילה גדלה במהירות רבה, ובשנת 1670 נפלה ההחלטה להקים בית כנסת אשכנזי. כאדריכל הוזמן אליאס באומן, שתכנן באותה תקופה גם את בית הכנסת הפורטוגזי באמסטרדם, וסגנון הבניה הושפע מהאדריכל המלכותי דניאל סטאלפארט שתכנן מבנים רבים באמסטרדם, בין היתר את הארמון המלכותי בכיכר דאם. מבנה בית הכנסת נבנה בצורת ריבוע, כאשר לצידו נבנו שני מבנים קטנים, האחד שימש כמקוה טהרה והשני כמשרד הנהלת הקהילה ודירת השמש. באולם המרכזי הוצבו 4 עמודי שיש שתמכו בתקרה, גלריה הקיפה את הקירות משלושה צדדים, כאשר שניים מהם שימשו כעזרת נשים והותקנה לפניהם מחיצה, השלישית הייתה ללא מחיצה וככל הנראה שימשה גברים. בבית הכנסת היו כ-400 מקומות ישיבה לגברים וכ-350 מקומות לנשים. הוצאות הבניה בסך 33,000 גילדן הולנדי, מתוכם 16,000 שעיריית אמסטרדם הלוותה לקהילה, הגיעו מתרומות של סוחרים עשירים, וממכירת מקומות ישיבה בבית הכנסת. בית הכנסת נחנך ב-25 במרץ 1671, היום הראשון של פסח בתפילות החג. העובדה שבית כנסת נבנה במבנה מפואר ובולט, שחזיתו פונה אל רחוב ראשי בעיר, הייתה נדירה באותם ימים באירופה, ומהווה עדות צבועות באדום, מתחת לכיתוב מופיעים 5 שמות ואת חודשי הפטירה שלהם, הלוח משתייך לקבוצה של גילופי אבן אשר יוצרו במחנות המעפילים בקפריסין בשנת 1948, אך המיוחד והנדיר בדוגמה שלפנינו היא בחלקה התחתון, בחלק התחתון ששרד בשלמותו ניתן לראות 3 מיקומים, בראשון מימין ישנו קרמטוריום מוקף גדרות תיל ממנו יוצא עשן ובתוך העשן הכיתוב המצמרר 6000000 ומעליו המילה ״עבר״. \n אח״כ ישנו גילוף של מחנה המעפילים בקפריסין עם מגדל שמירה, גדרות תיל וצריף מגורים, מעליו כתוב המילה ״הוה״. \n בחלק השמאלי והאחרון ניתן לראות גילוף של גבעה על תללים חרושים, על הגבעה בית, עץ ברוש ומגדל מים, אותו מגדל שמירה מהחלש של ההוה הופך כאן למגדל מים. מעל החלק הזה מופיעה המילה ״עתיד״. \n מדובר בפריט מרגש שמעביר בצורה הכי קשה אך גם מאוד אופטימית את רחשי לבו של ניצול שואה שעבר את תלאות השואה וכאשר הגיע לארץ המובטחת נאסר שוב ונשלח למחנה עצורים בקפריסין. ֿ \n מצד אחד מדובר בלוח זיכרון שעליו חרוט הסמל המצמרר והנוראי מכל של תקופת השואה הקרמטוריום ממנו יוצא עשן בצורת המספר 6 מילון אבל מצד שני ניתן לראות את העתיד שיהיה בסופו של דבר בארץ ישראל על גבעות מוריקות ופוריות. \n המצב של הפריט שלפנינו אינו מושלם, ישנם חוסרים מחלקו העליון אך החלק החשוב ביצירה החשובה הזאת נמצא לפנינו. \n גובה : 18.5 ס״מ \n רוחב: 15 אוטונומיה מנהלית.באוקטובר 1945 פונו תושבי המחנה הלא יהודים. חלקם הועברו לארצותיהם וחלקם - למחנות אחרים. במחנה העקורים לנדסברג נותרו ניצולי השואה. אליהם התווספו אלפי ניצולים ממזרח אירופה, רובם ניצולי יחסית, כנראה עקב איחור בהגעת הכוח הפושט אל היעד, שגרם לכך שהבריטים נמצאו בכוננות גבוהה. כמו כן ניסתה חוליה של לח\"י לחבל באותו לילה בבתי הזיקוק בחיפה. פעולה זו לא קיבלה את אישור תנועת המרי העברי. אחת הגבעות (\"גבעת הקרב\" כיום) ולחמו בהמוני הערבים עד שנפלו כולם בקרב ביום ה' בשבט תש\"ח (16.1.1948). יהודה הובא לקבורה בכפר עציון. ביום כ\"ה בחשוון תש\"י (17.11.1949) הועבר למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בהר- הרצל בירושלים. \n  \n \n הלוחית שלפנינו הוענקה למשפחה באות הערכה וזיכרון לבנם שנפל על הגנת וכיבוש ארץ ישראל, חללי שיירת הל״ה נקברו בכפר עציון שנפל לידיים ערביות ביום חמישי ד' אייר תש\"ח (13 במאי 1948), יום אחד בלבד לפני הכרזת המדינה, נפלו כפר עציון ומגיניו. המגינים, חברים ולוחמי פלמ\"ח, נהרגו תוך כדי קרב וחלקם נורו למוות לאחר שנכנעו לכוחות סדירים של צבא ירדן וערביי האזור. \n \n \n יהודה שלפנינו היא סיכת סיום שהוענקה לכל מסיימי מחזור ט׳ בבית הספר החקלאי מקווה ישראל, מחזור ט׳ סיים את לימודיו בשנת תרפ״ט, במקביל להתרחשותם של מאורעות תרפ״ט. על גב הסיכה הקדשה חרוטה : \n ״לרינה מאורעות 1929, בלשר אהרן״ הסיכה שימשה את אותו אהרן בלשר שלפי הרישומים שמצאנו נולד בנס ציונה בשנת 1910 בשביל להזכיר לחברתו רינה את התקופה הקשה אותה חוו כל יהודי ארץ ישראל בשנת 1929. \n מאורעות תרפ\"ט \"מהומות אוגוסט 1929\" היו סדרה של פרעות אלימות ומעשי טרור מצד ערביי ארץ ישראל נגד היישוב היהודי בארץ ישראל, שאירעו בין י\"ז - כ\"ג באב ה'תרפ\"ט, 23 - 29 באוגוסט 1929. במאורעות נרצחו 133 יהודים ו־339 נפצעו, ויישובים וקהילות ברחבי ארץ ישראל ננטשו ונחרבו. \n בעקבות המאורעות מונתה ועדת שו לחקירת האירועים. הוועדה הגישה ב־1930 את דו\"ח הופ-סימפסון, ובעקבותיו הוצא לאחר מכן הספר הלבן של משפחתו לגטו וילנה, שם ערך בגיל 9 את תצוגת ציוריו הראשונה. מהגטו הועבר למחנה העבודה hkp וממנו נמלט ובעזרת אחות סבו, שהוטבלה לנצרות בצעירותה, מצאו בק ואמו מחסה במנזר בנדיקטיני, שם הסתתרו בעליית גג. ב-1943 נאלצו השניים לחזור לגטו, ובק השתתף בתערוכת ציורים שארגנו שם אברהם סוצקבר ושמריהו קצ'רגינסקי. ב-24 בספטמבר 1943, עם חיסול הגטו, הועברו בק ואמו למחנה העבודה hkp שבו היה האב. משם נמלטו בק ואמו שנית אל המנזר הבנדיקטיני. אביו נורה למוות בידי הגרמנים בפונאר ביולי 1944, ימים מעטים קודם לשחרור האזור בידי הצבא האדום. מכל בני משפחתו נותרו בחיים בתום השואה רק הוא ואמו. בק תיאר זאת כך: \"כאשר הסובייטים שחררו אותנו, היינו שניים מבין מאתיים ניצולי וילנה, מקהילה שמנתה 70 עד 80 אלף נפש\". \n  \n בק ואמו עברו ללודז' שבפולין, ומשנת 1945 התגוררו במחנה העקורים לנדסברג שבגרמניה. ב-1947 צייר את ציור \"אם ובנה\" המשקף את זכרונותיו האפלים מתקופת השואה. בשנה זו ביקר בן גוריון במחנה העקורים באד רייכנהאל, שם ראה את ציוריו של בק.[1] \n  \n ב-1948 עלו בק ואמו לארץ ישראל. בשנת 1952 למד בבצלאל. בשנים 1953
