(bibles translated into yiddish had already existed for some time, such as the konstanz edition of 1544, or the cremona edition of 1560. however this edition was the first to include the entire tanach, unlike the two previous editions which included the chumash and five megillos only). \n \n \n  \n \n \n rivalry of amsterdam\u2019s two printers \n \n \n  \n \n \n upon the publication of another yiddish-translated tanach in 1687 by joseph attias, he was accused by uri feivush of infringing on his printing rights. attias, on the other hand, claimed that in reality he was preparing his edition for print as early as 1678 but got delayed during printing. he used the approbations to support his claim, as they are dated 1678, one year prior to the release of feivush\u2019s edition. both printers then accused each other of forging and falsifying their respective rabbinical approbations, which eventually resulted in the financial ruin of both printing houses. for further reading, see: a.m. habermann, chapters in the history of the hebrew printers, pp. 300-310. \n \n \n  \n \n \n this copy is complete with two title pages, the first being a copper-engraved title page. with the introductory pages in latin (which pertain to the printing rights as a result of the abovementioned controversy), \n as well as the \n final leaf, which is rare and lacking in most copies.  \n \n \n  \n \n \n engraved title page is partly damaged and attached to cardstock paper for support. this was likely done by r. shlomo eiger himself, as his signature \u2013 הק\u2019 שלמה איגר \u2013 is written directly on the cardstock, not on the title page itself. this is evidence that the paper was added either by him directly, or someone else at even an earlier time. nonetheless, it is clear that the chumash appeared this way even in the days of r. shlomo eiger. an additional autograph of r. shlomo eiger appears on the second title page as well.  \n \n \n  \n \n \n his personal stamp \u201cse\u201d (=solomon eiger\u201d), appears multiple times, on both title pages. the autograph of his rebbitzen rivka golda, appears on verso of the first title page. \n \n \n  \n \n \n interestingly, it would seem that this edition of the yiddish tanach was favored by many distinct torah leaders, and not merely used by women and children with no knowledge of hebrew. aside from this copy used by r. shlomo eiger, we know of another copy used by r. yaakov emden \u2013 the yaavetz, with his signature on the title page. find!  \n  \n first edition of sefer imrei moshe, the classic sefer recognized in the yeshiva world as one of the premier works of lomdus. authored by r. moshe sokolovsky, the rosh yeshiva of 'toras chesed' in brisk, which was run under the auspices of the brisker rav. \n  \n a dedication copy, with the author's handwritten inscription.  \n  \n this first edition is extremely scarce, likely due to the fact that not many copies were printed to begin with. as the author relates on the title page, the printing took place during the post-war years of wwi, so only a small portion of his chidushim were brought to print, and he did not write an introduction.  \n  \n unfortunately, several years later he suffered a stroke while giving a shiur - which he ultimately died from, and did not merit publishing the remainder of his chidushim.  \n  \n quite famously, it is known that after the holocaust there was not a single copy of this work to be found throughout eretz yisroel. it was believed that all copies were lost, however they managed to find a surviving copy, in the possession of r. yaakov yisroel kanievsky - the steipler gaon. he related that as a young maggid shiur in novardok, he had heard that this sefer came out, but he could not afford the price. he decided to write to the author and ask if he would be willing to send him a copy at no cost. the imrei moshe agreed, and that's how the sefer came into his possession.  \n  \n as such, it was the steipler gaon's own copy that was used to reprint this work after the holocaust. the steipler would often relate this story with great emotion, and would comment on the power of kindness. because the author was kind to him and sent him a copy free of charge, he merited that his work would not become lost forever, as it was from this very copy that the sefer was reprinted - and in turn the later editions that followed.  \n  \n the imrei moshe, who sadly did not leave any children, merited raising a generation of world-class talmidim, such as r. moshe soloveitchik and r. aharon leib shteinman who were his disciples. he died in 1931, due to complications from a stroke which he suffered from during a shiur. \n  \n  \n in excellent, like-new condition. bound in original binding. paper is browned and slightly brittle, typical of imprints from this era.  \n  \n complete copy. 31cm.","he":"מהדורה ראשונה של ספר עותק אחת של ספר זו ברחבי ארץ. כולם חשבו שכל העותקים אבדו, וחידושי האמרי משה הלכו לאיבוד ח״ו. למרבה הפלא, הצליחו למצוא עותק ששרד, ברשותו של רבי יעקב ישראל קנייבסקי - הסטייפלר גאון. אז הוא סיפר השתלשלות הדברים איך הספר הגיע לידו. בתור מג״ש צעיר בנובהרדוק, שמע שספר זה יצא לאור, והיה משתוקק להשיגו, אך כסף לא היה לו. הוא החליט לכתוב למחבר ולשאול אם יהיה מוכן לשלוח לו עותק במתנה. האמרי משה הסכים ושלח לו עותק בחנם, וכך הגיע הספר לידו... \n  \n והיה הסטייפלר מרבה לספר סיפור זה בהתפעלות, איך שרואים מכאן הכח של חסד. מכיון שהמחבר התחסד עמו, ושלח לו עותק ללא תשלום, הוא זכה שיצירתו לא תאבד לנצח, שכן דווקא עותק זה היה הבסיס למהדורת צילום שהודפס לאחר המלחמה, וממנו לכל מהדורות הבאות. \n  \n האמרי משה לא השאיר אחריו זש״ק, אך זכה להעמיד דור של תלמידים מהשורה הראשונה, ביניהם רבי משה סולובייצ'יק ורבי אהרן
