was argued, could unify halachic rulings and fulfill prophecies by appointing ordained judges. \n \n \n  \n \n \n in 1538, r. yaakov bei rav, one of the preeminent torah scholars of tzfas, proposed that the chachmei tzfas could confer semicha upon him, enabling further ordinations. (this was primarily based on the rambam in hilchos sanhedrin 4:11). they accepted his proposition, and unanimously ordained r. yaakov, who in turn ordained others - including r. yosef karo and r. levi ibn chaviv. however, the ralbach rejected the ordination, arguing it was invalid since jerusalem\u2019s sages were not consulted, per the rambam\u2019s requirement. despite debates, the ralbach stood firm, and opposition from egyptian and ashkenazic rabbis, alongside silence from r. yaakov\u2019s disciples, led to the initiative\u2019s decline by r. yaakov\u2019s death in 1546. \n \n \n  \n \n \n (ר\"מ-ש\"ה בערך), הידוע בשם הרלב\"ח. ספר יסוד בפסיקת ההלכה, אשר עוסק בסוגיות הלכתיות מרכזיות של תקופתו, כולל הוויכוח המשמעותי על חידוש הסמיכה, שנפרס מעל 50 דף בספר, כקונטרס שלם בפני עצמו (דפים רעז-שכח). \n \n \n  \n \n \n לאחר גירוש ספרד, קהילות יהודיות ציפו לגאולה הקרובה על רקע סבל עולמי ושינויים פוליטיים, כגון התפשטות האימפריה העות'מאנית. העברת טבריה לשליטה יהודית תחת דון יוסף נשיא עוררה תקווה, שכן זו הייתה העיר האחרונה שבה התכנס סנהדרין מוכר. הוצע לחדש את הסמיכה כדי לחדש סמכויות שיפוטיות, ולטפל בסוגיות כמו מומרים ועגונות. דרך הסנהדרין, כך נטען, יוכל לאחד פסיקות הלכתיות ולקיים דברי of this description for the original transcription of the text. interestingly, see da\u2019as torah (yoreh de\u2019ah siman 36), where he quotes \u201cmy disciple r. avraham yehuda\u2026\u201d \u2013 can this be the same disciple who presented him with the manuscript? \n \n \n  \n \n \n slightly beneath his autograph is the ownership stamp of r. moshe aryeh freund, who owned this manuscript while serving as rav of satmar. although we cannot reach any conclusive findings, it would be reasonable to assume that r. yoel teitelbaum \u2013 who served as rav of satmar during this period \u2013 would have likewise used this very manuscript too, as r. moshe aryeh was his close disciple and confidant. \n \n \n  \n \n \n this volume contains shearim 1-24 (sha\u2019ar haklalim through sha\u2019ar
